Melbourne Cold Night Shelter Report

A collaboration of several nonprofit organizations, including Daily Bread, Love, INC of Brevard, H.C.I. (Helps Community Initiative), Our Friends and Neighbors, First Church of the Nazarene, COTG (Competent Operational Testing Group), and the B.H.C. (Brevard Homeless Coalition) worked together to coordinate a cold night shelter for the nights of January 13-15, 2023 in Melbourne, FL, with the support of Mayor Alfrey and the Melbourne City Council. The Joseph N. Davis Community Center was designated to meet this need for the city of Melbourne. A hot meal was generously provided by a local restaurant, The Soup Shop, and each participant received a cup of coffee and a to-go breakfast each morning. 82 unique individuals were served over the three nights, and 34 volunteers from the community were mobilized to conduct the initiative.

An initial report of the success of this initiative has been compiled by Jeffrey Njus, Executive Director of Daily Bread. Click here to read the report.
